With a relatively short presence in the market, Brazilian olive oil producer “O Sabiá” has been making an indelible mark in the Brazilian sector. Surprisingly, in 2023, the company clinched the title of the world’s best olive oil producer at the prestigious Italian competition Lodo Guide, held in the city of Genoa!
This award is notable for being the oldest of its kind, with a history dating back 32 years, and is recognized as one of the most significant in the world of extra virgin olive oil across the globe.
And to top it off, the company offers a tourism program that includes guided visits to its farm located in Santo Antônio do Pinhal, a town near Campos do Jordão.

It’s important to highlight that this is the first time a Brazilian company has achieved such prestige! Additionally, “O Sabiá” has accumulated over 81 international awards in just 3 years of existence. The competition evaluated a total of 809 olive oils from 25 different countries.
This producer, owned by the couple Bob Costa and Bia Pereira, competed in the “Producer of the Year” category – the most coveted – against two of Italy’s most traditional and revered brands, Marfuga (founded in 1817) and Frantoi Cutrera (founded in 1906).
The representatives of Lodo Guide emphasized that “once again this year, Sabiá olive oil has produced true masterpieces.” Bia Pereira expressed her joy at the recognition: “It is with immense satisfaction that our team at Sabiá sees our work being recognized. We work tirelessly, always striving for the best practices to produce excellent olive oils. Standing alongside companies with over 100 years of tradition was already a great achievement, and now, winning is simply incredible.”
For those looking to deepen their knowledge of the olive oil universe, you can take a guided tour of the producer’s farm, located in Santo Antônio do Pinhal, approximately 2 hours from the capital city of São Paulo. At the farm, a team of olive oil experts welcomes visitors and takes them on a journey through olive cultivation, covering everything from the cultivation of olive trees and the different stages of the plants to the olive oil extraction process.
The experience also includes a tasting of various types of olive oil, allowing visitors to explore the various flavors, aromas, and characteristics of each.
Additionally, visitors have the opportunity to meet a 300-year-old olive tree, originally planted by Spaniards in Uruguay and now located on the Sabiá olive oil farm. You can also stroll among the olive trees, learn about cultivation techniques, and get answers to questions about the fascinating world of olive trees, all while enjoying the stunning landscape of the Serra da Mantiqueira.
The farm is open to the public on Thursdays, Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays, from 9:30 AM to 5:00 PM. Guided tours are conducted at different times throughout the day, at 10:00 AM, 11:30 AM, 2:30 PM, and 4:00 PM, and the cost of the experience, including the tasting, is R$ 59.00. It’s worth noting that children up to 12 years old and seniors over 80 years old have free admission. Reservations can be made through the website.
